Vocational education institutions in Armenia will be licensed. At its May 22 meeting, the RA National Assembly Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sports issued a positive opinion on the amendments to the Law “On Vocational Education and Training” and a  package of related laws submitted by the RA government.

Araksiya Svadjyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture,  and Sports of the RA, who presented the amendments, noted that the  Law “On Vocational Education and Training” has been in effect for  approximately two years, and during this time, a number of issues  have arisen that require the adoption of additional regulations. In  this regard, a legislative initiative was presented that also  provides for amendments to five related laws. The speaker noted that  an important group of regulations concerns the licensing of  vocational education institutions, while the second group concerns  funding policies in the vocational education and training sector.  Specifically, it is proposed to establish a permitting norm that  would establish priority professions and the funding procedures for  them.

“Considering that ensuring access to education for every child is of  paramount importance to us, and that inclusive education has already  been implemented in the preschool and general education systems, with  work underway in recent years to develop it, it is therefore  necessary to establish a regulation governing the provision of  pedagogical and psychological support to students with special  educational needs,” said Araksiya Svadzhyan.

The next regulation concerns the activities of vocational education  institutions. All employees working in higher education institutions  will be given the opportunity to hold service passports.  Provisions  are also proposed regarding the certification and classification  processes for vocational education teachers, as well as the  development of on-the-job training methods.
